Staff and Residents Mourn Six People who Passed
(Burlington, ON, March 5, 2014) – The team members and residents at The Village of Tansley Woods, a retirement and Long Term Care home in Burlington, mourn the recent passing of six of our Village residents. These residents, four from the Long Term Care (LTC) home and two from retirement living, had norovirus symptoms. All also had underlying conditions. “The health and wellbeing of our residents is our primary concern. We are pleased that the outbreak is now over in our LTC home along with no new cases reported in the retirement home. Our thoughts are with the residents and families of those that passed away,” said Assistant General Manager Augustine James.
“We appreciate the guidance and support of Public Health and all governing bodies for infection control who assisted us in managing the outbreak of this highly contagious virus. We have stringent protocols to avoid outbreaks and manage them and we need to continue to learn from this event. We will be conducting a full review of processes, protocols and events as we are committed to discovering how we could do better,” says Augustine.
During and following the outbreak the Village of Tansley Woods worked with all applicable authorities including the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, The Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority, and Halton Region Health Department.
