Schlegel Villages Receives Three-Year CARF Accreditation

International Recognition Highlights Vast Number of Areas where the Organization Excels

CARF Accreditation Gold Seal LogoThe Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) has awarded Schlegel Villages the highest achievement for accreditation under the Aging Services umbrella. The three-year accreditation was announced after the visiting surveyors from the independent, internationally-recognized organization compiled their finding following in-depth assessments of all aspects of Village operations in August of 2023.

“The focus on the enhancement of care and quality of life for the residents was reflected in the numerous reports from residents, family members and team members at Schlegel Villages,” the final accreditation report revealed. “All of the villages visited during this survey demonstrated a strong commitment to the mission and values of the organization, in addition to maintaining a strong person-centred philosophy.”

The surveyor’s report included an extensive list of strengths that ranged from the organization’s strategic priorities and commitment to recruitment and retention of quality team members to its focus on resident empowerment through the Wisdom of the Elder Signature Program.

A specific focus of the accreditation process was on dementia-related supports, where Schlegel Villages excels through its LIVING in My Today dementia support philosophy and team member training.

“Residents and their family members are happy with the care provided and the family-like environment that comes from the team’s constant focus on each resident,” the report reads. “Person-centred care is individualized and responsive to the rhythm-of-life preferences of each resident.”

The eight Villages visited by CARF surveyors represented the full range of physical Village designs offered within the organization, from Winston Park’s new neighbourhoods, which welcomed residents in early 2023, to some of the organization’s older homes that have yet to be fully updated. Regardless of the space, however, the surveyor’s noted that resident satisfaction was high and the commitment of team members and leaders to resident well-being is a great strength within all Villages.

“We were so pleased to welcome the CARF team into our Villages and we couldn’t be prouder of this outstanding result,” says Paul Brown, Chief Operating Officer with Schlegel Villages. “Everyone connected to each of our Villages contributes the overall experience Village life offers us all every day. When an outside organization digs into that experience and shares their findings with us, however, we’re reminded just how special our Villages are.”
