Helen Brimmell | Pursuit of Passions

"Journalism was not just a job for me, it was my life. I have always believed that as journalists, it is our duty to report the truth and hold those in power accountable. Even in my later years, I continue to write and follow the news, because I believe that staying informed is the key to staying engaged in the world around us."

Helen Brimmell and her passion for journalismHelen Brimmell’s passion for journalism began at the University of Toronto where she became the deputy editor of the Varsity School Newspaper. She later worked for the Canadian Press and was assigned to Parliament Hill in 1946.

She also has a love of painting and working with arts organizations and at 102, Helen continues to write and contribute to the Canadian Arts Association. Journalism and writing are not just passions, she says: it's her life. She believes that doing something you enjoy is essential to remain happy

Helen's wisdom inspires others to pursue their passions, no matter their age, and her experience has taught her to remain vigilant and not trust everything people say or write.
