Caring For Our Seniors

At the Village of Wentworth Heights, our team takes pride in community services, but more importantly, helping the senior population. With the current state of our province and world, the one message that needs to be driven home is that our seniors and those with compromised immune systems are the most vulnerable. They are the group of people that we need to look out for more now than ever.

We wanted to come together and play our part to keep our seniors safe by thinking of different avenues to reach them beyond the walls of the village. We were inspired by those on Facebook who had offered help to their neighbours and strangers by delivering various foods and products. Their hearts touched ours and we wanted to do the same. We have always been encouraged by Ron Schlegel and family that our organization mission extends to everyone regardless of whether you live in one of our Villages or not. We are passionate in supporting all seniors and vulnerable people in the community.

On Tuesday, March 24th, our Team will start utilizing our shuttle bus and hitting the roads to deliver Emergency Tote Bags to those in need. Our tote bags will contain basic & essential foods and products in hopes to prevent seniors from leaving their homes and exposing themselves to risk.

If you are a senior or knows of a senior or anyone in need, please contact us by calling 905-575-4735 or by emailing:

We are one community with one goal: working together
with our friends and neighbours to spread kindness and love in a time of fear and distress.

However, let’s not forget that this generation is the toughest and these folks are the most resilient and resourceful!

What can you do to help?

-         Take safe distancing measures
          * We encourage all seniors to avoid crowded places and non-essential travels

-         Remain vigilant in maintaining good personal hygiene
         * Wash your hands frequently and for 20 seconds
         * Avoid touching your face including your eyes, nose and mouth

What can you and seniors do to stay active while keeping a safe distance?

-         We recognize that during this time, it may be difficult for seniors to remain active.

-         By sharing our Move More Initiative, launched by the Research Institute for Aging, we hope to encourage everyone to find ways to get up and get moving throughout the day.

-         It is not about scheduled exercise programs but more about finding ways to increase the amount of regular activity that occurs throughout the day: may it be encouraging someone to walk more often or standing up to stretch after an extended time of sitting.

Here are a few more ways to be active:
