I am 105 years old May 25th, 2017! Isn't that something!
I have had a good life and am glad to get the chance to share a little bit of it with you today.
I was born in London, Ontario on May 25th, 1912.
My parents were wonderful people. My dad was a Royal Bank Manager. I was the youngest of three children. I had an older sister named Francis and an older brother Lloyd.
My mother was my best friend. I remember her voice; so beautiful. She was always asked to sing wherever we went.
My fondest memory of Mother is a game of hide and seek. I used to love to climb trees. I would make a point of climbing on and waiting for her to come find me. I had so much fun!
I remember moving to Windsor when I was 12. I attended Dougall Public School and Patterson Collegiate in Windsor. I considered myself an athlete and an accomplished artist. When you visit you will notice a sad clown painting that hangs in my room. I am proud to say I did it!
While I may not play basketball or golf like I used to, I was quite active in my day.
After I completed school, I became an executive secretary at Chrysler. It was a position I took great pride in. My boss had a lot of confidence in me and I was entrusted with all his affairs, each time he went out of town or took a vacation. I had many great years of employment there.
When I married my husband Victor, I became a full time wife and mother. We were blessed with one girl and we named her Karen. She is a great gal and gave me two wonderful grandchildren, Brian and Michelle. Get this! I also can boost that I have five great grandchildren: Brendan, Kaiden, Carter, Emma and Abbey. I love them all!
For 50 years, I had wonderful neighbours and when I moved to Kensington Court, I met a great friend by the name of Tatiana. We shared wonderful talks over chocolate and a glass of wine or two!
Although I do not attend a service at the present time, I consider faith to be strong. I was a member of the United Church for many years.
Here are a couple of my favourite sayings. "You can never tell the depth of the well by the handle of the pump" ... and ... "You can't judge a book by it's cover".
Truthfully, I have been involved in many activities during my life. I can say I am satisfied that I was a helpful and needed member of my community.
While I am not as social as I once was, I like company for short periods of time. I appreciate the time I have now to rest and relax. I feel so safe and well cared for here at the Village. I enjoy being up in the morning (not too early) to have a bowl of my favourite breakfast food - Oatmeal. I like the food here, but if I could have ice cream at every meal, I would not complain! Here is a little tidbit of information. I love shrimp! My ultimate favourite food!
Although life now is a little slower and more relaxed than in the past, I feel very lucky to live here at the Village at St. Clair. I feel the people respect my routines and most of all my privacy. That to me is a huge comfort. I love the team members dearly - each and every one of them!
My favourite pastime is sitting in my chair and looking out the window watching the children playing at the nearby school. A simple pleasure that makes me happy.
