New Long-Term Care Capacity Developing through The Village of Innis Landing in Barrie

Schlegel Villages and the Province to Expand Coleman Care Centre into a Brand New, 192-bed Home

Barrie, ON – July 28, 2025

Schlegel Villages is proud to partner with the Province of Ontario to bring new long-term care capacity to the city of Barrie.

With the support of the province, the long-term care beds at Coleman Care Centre on Cundles Road will be the foundation of a new, 192-bed long-term care home at the corner of Mapleview Drive and Yonge Street, known as The Village of Innis Landing.

The Coleman Team poses with Ron Schlegel During the Innis Landing groundbreaking ceremony.“Since Coleman Care Centre became part of the Schlegel Villages organization 13 years ago, the goal has always been to redevelop the home and it’s wonderful to see this vision unfolding,” says Schlegel Villages President and CEO James Schlegel. “Going back as far as the early 1950s, when my grandfather opened our family’s first care home, we have sought to expand and bring our mission to life in more communities across the province, and it’s exciting to see the expansion underway in Barrie.”

Across the street from the new GO Transit station, The Village of Innis Landing will be easily accessible and with new homes, condos, a school, shopping centres and the library not far away, the Village residents will be living in a true community hub once construction is complete in early 2027.

Eventually, the new long-term care Village will become part of a broader continuum of care with retirement suites and independent seniors’ apartments built in the next phases. These will include the Schlegel Villages signature Main Street and Town Square and a variety of services and experiences residents and neighbours can access every day of the year.

“For seven decades, our family has been in the service of older adults in seniors housing,” Schlegel says. “More importantly, we have always focused on community building and we’re thrilled to be part of that in a new development in Barrie, with our Coleman Care Centre family as a key part of the foundation.”
