Schlegel Villages is Honoured to Bring its Mission to Life with new Village in Richmond Hill
Province, City and Education Partners Working Together to Meet Growing Need

Richmond Hill, ON – August 15, 2025

Schlegel Villages is proud to partner with the Province of Ontario, the City of Richmond Hill, and Seneca College to bring much-needed long-term care capacity and innovative health-care education to the York Region.

With the strong support of the provincial government and the City of Richmond Hill, The Village of Westbrook Lane will be developed as a 192-bed long-term care home in the heart of the city. This collaborative effort reflects a shared commitment to meeting the needs of older adults today and in the decades to come.

In future phases, the Village will expand to include retirement neighbourhoods with approximately 550 suites, offering a full continuum of care for older adults. This will include the signature Schlegel Villages Main Street and Town Square, creating a vibrant hub of services, programs, and experiences for residents and neighbours to enjoy year-round.

The Village will also be home to a potential Living Classroom in partnership with Seneca College, blending education and real-world experience for students pursuing careers in health care. This proven model allows students to learn directly alongside Village team members, residents, and families—helping to build the future workforce for long-term care and seniors’ services in Ontario.

“For seven decades, our family has been dedicated to serving older adults in seniors housing,” says James Schlegel, President and CEO of Schlegel Villages. “Our focus has always been on building community, and through the support of the province, the leadership of Mayor West and City officials, and our educational partners, The Village of Westbrook Lane will become a welcoming and connected place where people can live, learn, and thrive together.”

“Richmond Hill is committed to ensuring our community has the services, care, and housing options it needs to support people as they age,” says Mayor West. “This new Village will be a shining example of what can be achieved when all levels of government, educators, and community partners work together. I’m proud to welcome The Village of Westbrook Lane as a place that will not only serve our residents but also strengthen our city for generations to come.”
