The Province, City and Affordable Housing Providers Answering a Need
Hamilton, ON – July 31, 2025
Schlegel Villages is proud to partner with the Province of Ontario, the City of Hamilton, affordable housing provider Indwell, and Mohawk College to develop new Long-Term Care capacity, much-needed affordable housing, and an exciting new health-care training campus for residents of the Hamilton Region.
With the support of the province, the brow lands around Century Manor on Fennell Avenue West will be redeveloped and become the site of two new, 256-bed Schlegel Villages Long-Term Care homes called The Village of Fennell Ridge. A large portion of the lands will be preserved as Greenspace, while the Century Manor building will be redeveloped and operated as supportive affordable housing under the leadership of Indwell.
A portion of the site will also be designated to Mohawk College, building on its established mature educational partnerships with Schlegel Villages.
Of the 512 beds included in this exciting new project, 64 will transition from Hamilton Continuing Care, which is currently owned and operated by Schlegel Villages. That site, at 125 Wentworth St. S in Hamilton, will also be redeveloped as affordable housing units under Indwell’s leadership, answering a great need in that part of the city.
Eventually, the new long-term care Village will become part of a broader continuum of care with retirement suites and independent seniors’ apartments built in the next phases. These will include the Schlegel Villages signature Main Street and Town Square and a variety of services and experiences residents and neighbours can access every day of the year.
“For seven decades, our family has been in the service of older adults in seniors housing,” says Schlegel Villages President and CEO James Schlegel. “More importantly, we have always focused on community building and through these wonderful partnerships, we’ll see an amazing community come to life in a revitalized corner of Hamilton’s proud heritage.”
