Today, our Schlegel Villages family marks the beginning of Black History Month, where we take the time to honour the legacy of the countless Canadians of black heritage who have helped to shape our nation. Black team members from around the world are a large part of the backbone of our Villages; their experiences and stories and those of our Black residents are woven into the fabric of Village life.
As we have committed in our organization’s aspirations:
“Our Villages are recognized communities of acceptance. Everyone is included and respected in their spirituality, cultural diversity and individual diversity.”
February and Forever: Celebrating Black History Today and Every Day is the theme of Black History Month 2022. These words remind us that the legacy of Black Canadians and the struggle to end discrimination and prejudice should hold a place in our collective hearts at all times, for when we honour and recognize the struggle of the Black community, we honour the true belief that equality for all is the future we should all strive for.
