Oakville, Ont. – Schlegel Villages is proud to celebrate progress in its efforts to bring Village Life to the Oakville community with an official groundbreaking ceremony for the new 640-bed Village of Heritage Trails.
More than a construction milestone, today's celebration is an extension of pride in Schlegel Villages' efforts to bring its mission to more communities across Ontario, providing opportunities for more older adults and Village residents to live meaningful lives surrounded by authentic relationships and life purpose.
The Village of Heritage Trails will feature two 320-bed long-term care homes, designed around Schlegel Villages' neighbourhood model of smaller, close-knit neighbourhoods where residents, families and team members build meaningful relationships. The signature Main Street, with all amenities connected to it, will still be the heart of the new Village, and it will eventually expand to offer all retirement options, from memory care and assisted living to fully independent seniors’ apartments.
"Our vision is to build a place where every resident is known, every family feels welcomed and every team member has the opportunity to build meaningful relationships,” said Jamie Schlegel, President and CEO of Schlegel Villages. “The family culture that has always defined life in a Schlegel Village will be at the heart of Heritage Trails from its very first day."
That culture will be rooted in the residents, families and team members of Erin Mills Lodge, who will relocate to Heritage Trails once construction is complete. Their relationships within a close-knit community will form the foundation of the new Village while ensuring continuity of care and familiarity for those who call Erin Mills Lodge home today.
"Our Erin Mills Lodge community has spent decades creating a Village built on compassion, belonging and genuine human connection," Jamie said. "Those residents and team members will carry that culture with them to Heritage Trails, giving this new Village something that cannot be designed on a blueprint. They will give it its heart."
Since opening its first Village more than three decades ago, Schlegel Villages has grown into a family of communities across Ontario, each guided by the belief that every person has something meaningful to contribute, regardless of age or ability. Heritage Trails continues that vision by creating a place where residents remain connected to the broader community through shared spaces, partnerships and opportunities for neighbours to gather.
Construction of The Village of Heritage Trails represents another important investment in Ontario's long-term care system while creating a welcoming home for current and future generations of older adults and their families.
Schlegel Villages looks forward to sharing updates as construction progresses and to welcoming the Oakville community to Heritage Trails in the years ahead.
