The idea of a fundraising boat cruise in honour of the Wilfred Schlegel Hope Fund first launched in 2019, and has since become an annual tradition. On July 7, residents, team members, families and friends gathered on a beautiful summer’s eve to cruise the waters of Lake Ontario overlooking the Toronto skyline. With the support of wonderful partners and sponsors, thousands of dollars were raised in honour of the Schlegel Villages team members who have accessed the fund in the past or may need to in the future. Since the fund was first created in 2018, more than $1.2 million has been offered to support team members who have fallen upon hard times. With each dollar raised, either through events like this or through voluntary payroll deductions of team members that are matched by the Schlegel Family, hope grows a little more.
